Martin Strel is trying to swim the length of the world’s longest rivers. He has already swam the Mississippi, Yangtze, and Danube rivers. He just recently finished the Amazon — 3,274 miles!

I used to talk in terms of conquering rivers. But that’s not what happens at all. I haven’t conquered any rivers, what I’ve been conquering is myself. My own limitations, that are mostly in my head. This is, I believe, the only way forward for
all of us. Each one of us has to find a way to conquer our pride and our vanity and greed, our corruption and will to power. Find a way to live in peace and dignity with ourselves, and then we can live in peace and dignity with each other.
