After biking and drinking with my friend Steve in Durango for a couple of nights I headed up to Ouray to see what kind of trouble I can get into. The drive up here is really crazy — I can’t believe we drove those roads in February!

I camped up at about 9,000ft on the road to Mt. Sneffels. I had planned to hike up Mt. Sneffels (14,150) but there is just way too much snow up there to attempt it without crampons and ice axes. I was, however, able to bike up the road to about 12k feet (to the town of Sneffels — once a mining town that produced ~$1 billion dollars in gold and silver) and enjoy a killer descent back to my campsite. My camera is down in my car but I’ll upload some photos when I get to Fruita (probably tomorrow).

After a soak in the Ouray hot springs I’m going to drive to Fruita and hopefully find a campsite close to some trails…
